For the last several months I have been receiving many mails from many readers all over the world asking me what exactly is Gayatri Mantra and what are it’s divine qualities and what benefits it would offer to it’s chanter..
I have prepared this article after an intensive study of various texts and presenting my observations before you.
Please go through
What exactly is Gayatri Mantra..??
Everyone knows what is Gayatri Mantra but if I have to describe the divine qualities of this amazing manthra then Gayathri manthra is,
“Agnirmukham Brahmasiraha.. Vishnu Hridayam Rudra Sikhah”
It means Lord Agni, the Hindu God of fire is the face of Gayatri mantra; Lord Brahma – the srishti karaka or the creator of this universe is the head of Gayatri mantra; Lord Vishnu -the sthithi karaka or the mantainer or preserver is the heart of Gayatri mantra and Lord Siva – the laya karaka, the destroyer or the transformer is the corona of Gayatri mantra”
While Lord Brahma is the gross body of Gayatri mantra; Lord Vishnu is it’s subtle body and Lord Siva the causative body of this all powerful mantra.
Gayatri Veda Jananee.. Gayatri Loka Paavanee.. Na Gayatryah Param Jasya.. Metha Dwignaana Muchyathe
It means Goddess Gayatri is not only the mother of all the holy Vedas but Gayatri mantra is also the sanctity by itself that keeps all the fourteen lokas sacred..
Hence, there’s no other mantra in this universe that’s more powerful than the Gayatri mantra that deserves a meditation and there’s also no other mantra that teaches it’s chanter a better philosophy than the Gayatri mantra.
(Gayatri mantra should not be written anywhere nor should it be recited loudly.. It’s ridiculous that people are using it as mobile ringtones and caller tunes.. They think it is devotion towards the holy Goddess but it is disservice to the sanctity of the sacred mantra).
A chanter of Gaytri mantra should also know it’s other vital divine qualities and benefits
> Because Gayatri mantra fulfills the desires of the human soul, it is called the Kamadhenu of Bhuloka – the celestial Cow of the earth.
> Because Gayatri mantra withdraws it’s chanter from the eternal cycle of life and death and grants him salvation, it is called ‘Sudha’ – the Ambrosia or the Elixir.
> Because Gayatri Mantra, with it’s touch, converts the metal like subjectivity in a noble devotee into Gold, it’s called the ‘Alchemist’.
> Because Gayatri Mantra grants everything Her devotee seeks, it is called the ‘Kalpa Vriksha’ – the celestial tree.
> Because the efforts of those who recite the Gayatri Mantra shall never go waste, it is called the ‘Brahmastra’, the invincible arrow or the weapon.
> Most importantly, the twenty four aksharas in Gayatri Mantra represent or define the twenty four ‘Tatvas’ of Goddess Gayatri.
> These twenty four ‘Tatvas’ are the ‘pancha mahabhuthas’ or the five elements of Nature (Akash, Vayu, Agni, Jal and Prithvi)..
> The ‘Pancha tanmatras’ or the five archetypes (shabdha, sparsha, roopa, rasa, gnadha);
> The ‘pancha gnanendriyas’ or the five organs of sense(eye, ear, nose, tongue and skin)
> And the ‘pancha karmendriyas’ or the five organs of action (mouth, feet, hands, anus and genitals)..
> The other four ‘tatvas’ are Manasu or mind; budhdhi or mindfulness; chiththam or dross and ahankaram or pride.
> It is only for this reason it is said, “Gayantham Trayathe.. Yasmaath Gayathree Tyabhi Dheeyathe”, which means Gayatri Mantra forever protects the one who chants it .
> It is also for this reason it is said “since the twenty four powerful aksharas in Gayatri mantra represent the twenty four vital organs of a human body, it’s daily recitation would protect it’s chanter’s all twenty four body parts from diseases.
> It is also the recitation power of this Gayatri mantra that had metamorphosed the Rajarshi Viswamithra – the magical magnifico (manthra drashta) behind Gayatri Mantha – to Brahmarshi Viswamithra.
Finally, there’s one important point
Every chanter of Gayatri mantra should bear in mind.. The bad energies in a chanter of Gayatri mantra may not start diminishing as soon as he begins the recitation of the mantra but would gradually and certainly go over a period of time..
Anyone, however sinful his past might be, may still recite this mantra if only he decides to walk the path of righteousness forever, thereafter.
